THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS COLUMN

WELCOME TO THE TEAM!

The response was tremendous! Last month I put out a generic request to everyone interested in helping bring support to booster clubs in your community and I want to thank the large number of replies that were received. For those of you who have joined the team and are now helping to make a difference - congratulations!

If you didn't have a chance to send an email and you would like to play a part in helping us bring support, training and guidance to booster clubs in your community I invite you to send me an email today. Don't let the extra-curricular programs and the booster clubs in your community miss out simply because you didn't find out more.

Remember you don't need to be a seasoned booster club veteran to help make a difference. One step at a time, one goal at a time and we can make a difference.

I welcome your emails and look forward to assisting you in success. sbeden@boosterclubs.org

I wish each of you the best of success.
Happy Boostering!

Steve M. Beden
Executive Director

A few thoughts from previous customers…
"We have done a lot of fundraising over the years for the Northstar Band and this is one of the best we have ever done! We raised money for our trip to the 2004 Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City and these custom designed candles were a hit with our students, their families, and our supporters! If you are looking for a truly unique fundraiser for your group, I highly recommend Botika Private Label Candles."

"The Criminals (school mascot) broke out using Botika Candles! The sales projected netted the club over $4,000.00! Thanks Botika Candles for the top rate service and product!" (60 students sold 2,000 Private Label Candles)

DO-IT YOURSELF FUNDRAISER OF THE MONTH

Balloon Bust

Fill a couple hundred balloons with helium and slips of paper redeemable for prizes or cash, or (10 percent) 'Thank You Please Try Again'. The prizes can be a free Coke if Coca Cola is helping sponsor event. You could have an early bird prize about 'Guess The Number of Balloons'. That could go on for a couple of hours, then the prizes start to be drawn. Fill a room with these balloons, so patrons walk in and find them-selves in a latex obstacle course. They can pull one balloon outside, you write their name on it with magic marker. Then they put it back until the end of the night. During the day, have patrons guess how many balloons are in the room. The closest wins a prize at the end of the day.

Variation 1: Put money into 100 helium-filled balloons and sell them for $10 each. Denominations: One balloon contains $100, two-$50.00, two-$20, two-$10, two-$5.00 and the rest $2.00. Sell all 100 and make a total of $548.00.

DEAR BOOSTER

Dear Booster,
We are thinking of starting a Booster Club at our Elementary school to separate the sports program from PTA programs. One question I have is regarding bank accounts. Would the Booster Club be able to set up a local bank account in order to deposit checks from fundraising and write checks for tournament fees?
Are booster clubs able to open a bank account under the Booster name or must that still be done through the school?

Thank you for your assistance and any information you can provide.

Diane K.
Rio del Norte PTA President

Dear Diane,
Yes, a booster club can and should setup its own bank account. To setup a bank account you will need to formally register your club and obtain a Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the state corporation commission or the IRS. Most banks will also require that you provide a corporate resolution stating your club has approved opening the account and naming those to be placed as signors on the account.

Send us your Dear Booster.... article and we will select one each month to share with the readers of Booster Trends. To submit your email send to: dearbooster@boosterclubs.org.
