THE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS COLUMN |
|
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
On
behalf of the entire NBCA staff
our City Directors, Area Coordinators
and business members I want to
wish each of you a very happy
and safe holiday season.
The
next time you read our newsletter
we will have turned the calendar
and started a new year. One we
hope will bring you and your club
a wealth of opportunities, new
found faces, and many exciting
challenges.
Just
like you, the staff at the association
is equally as excited for what
the new year holds. In the coming
weeks and months you will see
many changes, each designed to
provide our business partners
with expanded opportunities and
our club members with more ease
in building long-term success.
The
past two newsletters have included
invitations to those of you who
are ready to help the association
make a difference in your communities.
If you have not been contacted
yet - don't fear, the new year
will provide very exciting opportunities
for you to become actively involved.
As
we ring out the old and bring
in the new I would like to challenge
each of you to make sure that
one of your resolutions is to
help the association gain a strong
foothold in your community. Working
together we can bring the level
of continued success that each
club needs and deserves.
I
welcome your emails and look forward
to assisting you in success.
I
wish each of you the best of success.
Happy Boostering!

SANTA
LETTER or BIRTHDAY NEWSLETTER
Letter From Santa: Offer
a personalized 'Letter from
Santa' written on colorful
holiday stationery and matching
envelopes. Children just
love receiving their own
mail... especially from
someone as magical as Santa!
Compose one or more standard
letters using a standard
word processing program.
See Examples Below. Develop
an order form for personalization
to be provided by purchaser.
This could include the child's
name, age, gender, hometown,
address, good deed, accomplishment,
grade in school, name and
age of siblings, name of
pet, etc.
Purchase
colorful holiday stationary.
Keep the quantity low until
you see how sales are going.
Colorful Christmas stamps
are also a must!
Take
orders in advance. Get payment
with the order. Set a cut-off
date to make sure the letters
will be delivered timely.
Pick
the city you want the letter
to be postmarked from and
contact the postmaster there
to make sure that they will
open your bundle of letters
and re-mail them for you.
Some choices of cities could
be North Pole, AK; Santa
Claus, GA; Reindeer, KY;
Christmas, FL, etc. You
get the idea.
Set
a price. Similar letters
are available from a number
of sources for $4.00 to
$10.00. Since you are doing
this as a fundraiser, your
supporters will probably
be generous but keep the
price reasonable enough
to generate good volume.
This is not a big money
maker but it can be fun.
Birthday
Newsletter
This
is similar to the Santa
Letter but requires you
to purchase a 'birthday'
software program which will
produce a Birthday 'Newsletter'
or 'Chronicle' with the
recipients name and containing
celebrity birthdays and
events occurring on that
date and world headlines
for that year. Usually available
for dates between 1900 and
2004. All you do is insert
the recipients name and
date of birth, and the software
generates the 'Newsletter/Chronicle'
for that day.
Programs
are cheap ($20 - $50), simple
to install, and require
minimal computer knowledge.
A color printer is preferred.

It's

| DEAR
BOOSTER |
|
Dear
Booster,
I'm the Treasurer for the
SE Guilford High School
Band Boosters in Greensboro,
NC. We have come upon two
questions and need your
advice.
1.
Can the booster program
pay for the band director's
membership in the Music
Educator's Association?
2. Is the booster club responsible
for paying for the band
director's substitute teacher
cost while he is at a two
day music educator's conference?
Thanks,
Donna M.
SE Guilford HS Band Boosters
Dear
Donna,
Yes, the booster club can
pay for the band director's
membership, if it chooses.
It's recommended that the
booster club either open
the request to a vote of
at least it's executive
members and then if it is
agreed that you will help
cover the expense you should
record this in your meeting
minutes. We also suggest
that you look at your clubs
bi-laws to best determine
what restrictions and provisions
are set for approving such
a request.
In
response to your second
question as to whether or
not the booster club is
responsible for paying for
the band director's substitute
teacher costs the question
I need to ask you is - Did
the booster club commit
to paying the director for
this expense? If not, then
the answer is no. The booster
club with the guidance of
its executive directors
and officers can elect to
cover or not to cover just
about any expense within
reason and approved by its
directors as outlined in
its bi-laws.
Send
us your Dear Booster....
article and we will select
one each month to share
with the readers of Booster
Trends. To submit your email
send to: dearbooster@boosterclubs.org.

| FAST
FACT |
|
|
Fact of the month-
"Keep your name on their
brain". When prospecting
local businesses for support or
encouraging parents to become
active members of your club the
key to success is to give ample
opportunities for them to see,
hear and view your club in action.
One of the most productive ways
to accomplish this is to develop
a monthly club newsletter. The
next time you visit a local business
or talk to a parent ask them if
you can put them on your newsletter
list. Your support will continue
to grow with minimum effort.
Quote
of the month-
