Club
Fact |
| Your booster
club can reduce the loss of parent involvement
if you eliminate Sr. parents as your executive
members.
If this is somewhat of a
shocker then consider this. Senior parents
will be challenged during their son or daughters
senior year with helping to prepare for
college, scholarships, senior party, and
a host of other activities that will take
precedence over administrating the booster
club.
By electing to have your
clubs officers rank only in the underclass
(Freshman, Sophomore and Junior) you have
done two positive things. First you have
established a constant mentor base as senior
parents will still be involved if you ask
them to stay active and second, you have
reduced the loss of valuable knowledge which
traditionally goes out the door when the
child and parent graduate. |

EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS COLUMN |
| The
importance of a "good"
booster club.
Each
day we are provided with the opportunity
to assist booster clubs from around the
country, many are just starting out and
have no idea of how or what to do and some
clubs have been around for generations but
struggle to gain the parent involvement
and support they need.
Regardless
of whether your club supports a sport, band,
cheerleading or debate team the needs are
basically all the same and without a good
mentor or coach we are all only as good
as those around us.
For
the past four years we have continued to
piece together the support structure to
help bring together booster clubs from around
the country, providing a cooperative environment
that will and can provide opportunity for
expansion and continued growth.
If
you are an Athletic Director, Principal
or parent involved with a booster club that
has not taken the opportunity to become
associated with the Booster Club Association
you need to realize that you are leaving
a valuable and vital component to your clubs
success locked away in the closet. Now is
the time to motivate them to get involved
and to start benefiting from the positive
reinforcement, contacts, resources and coaching
they will gain.
Working
together we can make a positive difference.
We can help to insure the continuation of
extra-curricular activities and we can help
to create clubs that prosper year after
year. We can develop support systems that
will allow a club to continue growing even
when key volunteers leave, and working together
we can build a support and resource network
that is second to none.
I
want to encourage you to get your entire
booster club registered to receive this
monthly publication, encourage them to become
registered chat members and to share their
ideas and suggestions. Getting them tuned
in and turned on with new ideas and resources
is the starting point for club expansion.
Developing a good booster club takes commitment,
dedication and hard work. So I invite you
to join with the thousands of booster clubs
from around the country who are realizing
for the first time that they have an organization
that is dedicated to helping them succeed.
I
welcome your emails and look forward to
assisting you in success.

FUNDRAISING UPDATES |
|
We are excited to announce that many
new vendors with exciting products
are now in Vendor
Alley and Fundraising
Corner.
Be
sure to check out ASAP Food
Products. One of their products
is a microwaveable popcorn that comes
in four flavors: butter, sweet/salt,
natural, low fat butter.
Each
bag contains three bags that when
popped look like a football, baseball,
cartoon character and more. Choose
from 10 different printed bags. This
product is reasonably priced and the
profit for the club is great.
Gourmet
Delights is another of our
new vendors. This company has bags
of various pasta and snack foods that
also come in gift sets. The gift sets
are a great Christmas present for
the person who has everything, or
for company employee gifts.
Gourmet
Delights has no shipping or handling
fees, quick turnaround when ordering
and a high profit for the booster
club.
Another
company that has great ideas for Christmas
is Mad Will’s Food Company.
Mad Will’s Food Company will
print the name of the organization
on the label of a variety of sauces
ranging from Raspberry Walnut Dressing
to Raspberry Chocolate Fudge Sauce.
They also have a variety of BBQ sauces.
Mad
Will’s Food Company’s
gift sets, which have two bottles
of sauce in a shippable gift box,
come in five different varieties.
The
company has a 25 case minimum for
free shipping with 12 units per case.
There is also free shipping if 100
of the 2 pack gift boxes are sold.
The profit margin is on a sliding
scale that goes up the more you sell.
Selling Idea: Great for a company
who wants to give their employees
a little something extra.
You
can check out these and other vendors
all on Fundraising
Corner or send me an email if
you have any questions: jevans@boosterclubs.org.

| DEAR
BOOSTER ..... |
Dear
Booster,
I
was involved with the PTA for many years
when my son was in grade school. Now that
he is in high school I was asked to join
the booster club and take on the position
of vice president. I don't want to sound
stupid, but what does the booster club do?
It doesn't appear that the parents involved
with the club really know what to do. There
doesn't seem to be much of a focus and the
organization is pretty scattered. I called
my old PTA contact and was told that they
didn't work with or support booster clubs.
Seeking your help! Needy Mom, Mobile, AL
Dear Needy Mom,
The NBCA is a national organization that
supports, trains and works with booster
clubs. Working with state booster club associations
we provide a nationwide support system that
provides guidance, training, resources,
contacts and answers to questions such as
the one you posed asking "what is a
booster club".
A
booster club is the parent organization
the supports a given activity or cause.
Many of us are familiar with the college
booster clubs that support sports, or the
local booster club for the semi pro or professional
team but like many parents entering the
high school ranks many do not know what
the booster club does or is.
A booster club helps insure the continuation
of the activity by providing hands on involvement
in conducting fundraising activities, running
events and tournaments, staffing concessions
as well as helping with transportation,
building and supplying new equipment and
a multitude of other helpful activities.
Booster clubs are parent organizations who
seek to help insure the continuation or
extra-curricular activities for all kids.
Send
us your Dear Booster.... article and we
will select one each month to share with
the readers of Booster Trends. To submit
your question email.

FACT |
| Fact
of the month-
People will only get involved with something
they feel welcomed and educated in. If you
want to increase your meeting attendance
and volunteer base you must establish an
environment that welcomes and encourages
the active participation from all parents.
Don't isolate or leave out. Invite and welcome
all parents into your organizations. Your
membership will increase as will your meeting
attendance and volunteer base.
Quote
of the month-
" It's not how much you have that makes
people look up to you, it's how much you
give."
