Club
Fact |
| Successful
clubs have found the key to building
their nest egg of volunteers.
They have found
that volunteers in general want
to get involved but don't want
to take on tasks that require
a high level of commitment.
Breaking up volunteers
into small work pods with simple,
achievable tasks that do not require
an abundance of time or effort
will insure they keep coming back
to help. Time and time again!

Fundraising |
| Multiple
Streams of Income
No matter what event you hold
as a fundraiser, it is important
to have multiple streams of income.
Many groups hold successful fundraising
events but don't plan for any
secondary sources of income.
Many years
ago movie theater owners discovered
that they had the perfect captive
audience to sell products to.
Now days they make very little
money from selling tickets to
the movie. The big bucks are in
concession stand sales. It's no
accident that you have to walk
by the concession stand to get
to the movie!
What started out
as popcorn, drinks and candy has
now grown to chips & cheese, hot
pretzels, bulk candy sales, ice
cream, cotton candy, movie posters
and memorabilia. For theater owners
it's all about multiple streams
of income.
For you, the booster
club event holder, multiple streams
of income should be important
to you also. It may be as simple
as selling refreshments at the
intermission of the school play,
or as complicated as adding an
auction to your groups annual
banquet.
With all the competition
for your donors fundraising dollar,
make sure you capture the most
you can from each of your donors.
It is always easier to coax a
few more dollars from an existing
donor than to find a brand new
donor. Some groups have managed
to grow a small annual event into
their sole fundraising source
by leveraging their secondary
sources of income. Gather your
members together, put your thinking
caps on, and brainstorm those
money making ideas for your next
fundraising event.

Dear Readers,
Lots of good things happening in this
month's issue. A great article by the
National Federation of High Schools
on booster clubs and the NBCA. A spotlight
on a new business member ready to provide
some help with screen printed items,
and we talk about upcoming events, ideas
and how to insure next year starts off
with a bang! It's spring time and we're
bustin out all over.
Now, on to this months issue.

Washington State High School Cheerleading
Championships A Huge Success
Saturday
March 9th marked the first ever
high school cheerleading championships
in Washington State. The NBCA sponsored
a tremendous day of competition
that included high school cheerleading
squads from around the state. Attendance
packed the Juanita H.S. Fieldhouse
where a full day of competition
crowned some tremendous teams. We
want to recognize the winners at
the first state competition. |

ATTITUDE
MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Studies have proven that
attitude is one of the traits that
separate average sales people from
their highly-successful colleagues.
I have to believe that it's true
in life in general, not just sales.
Think about the happiest, most successful
people you know. How do you usually
find them? Are they depressed, negative,
or even apathetic? I doubt it. They're
probably upbeat, smiling, and positive
about life.
Why not take the same positive
interested attitude you have toward
your your booster clubs and transfer
your passion to your ability to
sell yourself, your ideas, or
the end results of your club?
Instead of turning your selling
job into a hobby, why not take
the hobby you love so much and
figure out how to market it or
yourself? I'm not saying this
change will make your club a million
dollars, but money isn't the only
measure of success. If you were
to do nothing more then to excite
the interest of fellow parents,
I would deem you as having succeeded.
Think about it! You already have
the built-in enthusiasm, excitement,
and knowledge of your club. Now
all you need to do is show others
why they need to feel the same
way. If you do a little research,
you'll find that many successful
booster clubs have found that
the key to continued success is
their positive attitude and desire
to motivate others into action.
Make the commitment to turn your
enthusiasm and excitement into
fuel for others to build from.
A source of energy that will help
your club continue to grow for
years to come. What could be better?
