| Dear
Booster..... |
|
This month launches the first column
of "Dear Booster".
Dear Booster,
Help! We can't seem to attract parents
to our monthly club meetings. What
can we do to increase attendance.
Sincerely,
Tom H., Vanderpoint H.S. Booster
VP
Dear Tom,
This is a subject that has multiple
answers but for now let's direct
our attention to increasing "long
term" attendance, which is
vital to a clubs growth. Here is
an easy and highly effective solution.
Regardless of what your clubs affiliation
(sports, band, debate, etc.) you
can apply the following to all.
We need to remember that people
come to events and meetings because
they have an interest in hearing
what will be said or they are coming
to support someone or something
they care about.
Successful booster club meetings
need to include the following:
1. A well defined meeting agenda
- don't sidetrack
2. Meetings that always start on
time and end within a maximum of
1 1/2 hours
3. Include a keynote speaker like
the coach, principal, or someone
with credibility who has a genuine
interest in helping your group.
4. And, equally as important you
must provide an environment that
welcomes and encourages new attendees.
People will not attend your meeting
if they feel that it is "only
for a select few".
Show your parents that you are
well organized, have an agenda that
effectively and efficiently addresses
important club issues, and you welcome
them with open arms and you will
be amazed at how your meeting attendance
will grow.
Send us your
Dear Booster.... article and we
will select one each month to share
with the readers of Booster Trends.
To submit your question email dearbooster@boosterclubs.org.

Fact |
Fast Facts-
(reprint from June, 2002)
Product Sales by Schools, Non-profits
Net $1.9 Billion
Fundraising programs involving
product sales raised an estimated
$1.9 billion net profit last year
for nonprofit organizations. Schools
and school groups account for $1.52
billion of those profits. The fundraising
estimate is based on a new survey
conducted by the Association of
Fundraising Distributors and Suppliers
(AFRDS).
Product fundraising generates $4.164
billion in annual retail sales,
up roughly 7% since the previous
survey in 1997, the last time the
industry group collected the statistical
data.
Clearly, product sales is a critical
resource for schools and other non-profit
organizations working to raise money
for computers, class trips, athletic
and music programs, playground equipment
and much more.
Other key findings:
- Schools and school groups represent
80% of fundraising sales.
- Among school sales, more than
half (54%) were made through elementary
schools.
- Among survey respondents, top
selling products were, in order:
candies and confections, magazine
subscriptions, frozen entrees, cheese
and meat products, decorative novelties
and gift wrap.
- On average, non-profit groups
retain 46.5% of the total fundraising
sale as pure profit!
- The average product fundraiser
generates nearly $6,000 in sales.
Quote of the month-
"Action springs not from thought,
but from a readiness for responsibility."
