DON'T HIDE YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS
The
old saying - any news is good news really applies when
it comes to sharing how much your group has accomplished.
One
of the best ways to help build parent involvement is
to publicize all that your grou has achieved.
It's
easy to lose perspective on how much your group has
really achieve, how many volunteers have supported your
events and activities, and how much you have helped
both your group participants, your school and your community.
Keeping
an ongoing list and then sharing your groups accomplishments
is key to building long-term support and parent involvement.
If
your school produces a newsletter, ask to include an
article about your organization. Contact your local
newspaper and provide them with a press release announcement
that can be included in the Life Style or Community
section. Develop a 1 pager that includes your groups
mission and vision statement as well as a comprehensive
list of all that your group has achieved. If you have
kept the names of those ho have helped out - include
them as well.
Once
you have compiled the list of accomplishments try to
figure out how many hours total your volunteers have
committed. You will be suprised at how much time has
been dedicated to helping your school, your group and
your community.
Remember,
if you don't let others know how much your group has
accomplished many parents won't see the value in getting
involved and supporting your booster club.
Happy
Boostering
Sincerely,

Steve M. Beden

Dear
Booster,
I recently asked to become a member of the booster club
to which my daughter is a soccer player. After joining
I noticed that the number of members is very limited
so I was wondering - who can be members of the Booster
Club?
Tracy B.
Red Ryders U16 Soccer Club
Dear
Tracy,
Booster
club members can and in many cases do include; parents,
teachers, grandparents, school administrators, alumni
and community members. There really is no limitation
on who can be a member unless the booster club itself
chooses to restrict membership to a set group of supporters.
Send
us your Dear Booster.... article and we will select
one each month to share with the readers of Booster
Trends. To submit your email send to: dearbooster@boostercentral.org.

The
A-Peeling program is simple. Your organization will
sell credit card sized cards that have peel-off stickers
for discounts from national restaurants.
You get a generous commission for each card you sell!
And your sellers can earn prizes and scholarships for
reaching sales milestones. The cards are compact, durable,
and filled with useful discounts. The only people who
can't use an A-Peeling card are people who don't eat!
Register for a free card to check it out for yourself.
A-Peeling Fund Raising, Inc. and your local merchants
are happy to sponsor area youth, who earn money for
worthwhile projects and receive scholarships for their
future education.

TIPS |
|
 |
|
A Booster Don't:
Never
run a fundraiser for more than “3 weeks”.
The results will decrease by as much as 30% and your
group will get burned out quicker making it less likely
your next fundraiser will succeed.
Booster Basic:
- Encourage coaches and program directs to promote active
support of the booster club at orientation meetings.
- Recognize your volunteers – regardless of how
large the success.
- Develop mentoring programs for all key executive level
positions.

Skip-a-Meal
Eight
hundred and eighty students, approximately 11% of
the regular diners, skipped a meal around the University
of Massachusetts campus as a fundraiser to benefit
the victims of the tsunami disaster in Southeast Asia.
The event occurred at all UMass dining commons and
local retail outlets. The price of the meal skipped
along with the price of the food that was not produced
because of the reduction in students eating at the
dining halls, was donated to OxFam, who will use much
of the money to provide vaccinations for tsunami victims.
The dining halls waited to cook the meal until a little
before the students who are not participating arrived
so there was not a lot of over-production. Skip a
Meal fund-raisers have gained in popularity over the
past several years and many universities raise thousands
of dollars every year for various causes through this
method.
