| TIME
TO RECHARGE THE BATTERIES
As
many booster clubs end the regular school year this
is the ideal time to take a deep breath and recharge
the support of your members.
Here
are a few tips to help end the year on a positive and
position next year for an even greater start:
1.
Publically recognize and thank all of the volunteers
who have helped make your year a success.
2. Gather your officers and committee members for a
social get-together.
3. Conduct mini-orientation meetings between the outgoing
and the new incoming officers and chairpersons.
4. Send a personal thank you to each of your club officers
and committee members.
End
the year on a positive.
Happy
Boostering
Sincerely,

Steve M. Beden

BOOSTER |

Dear Booster,
Our booster club has been approached by the Athletic
Director who explained that the school budget was recently
cut to the point that there is no longer money to pay
some of the coaches for the programs at our school.
The question we have is can a booster group help with
the salaries of a coaches and /or “walk-on”
instructors?
Jeremy Z.
Apopka, FL
Dear
Jeremy,
Traditionally booster clubs are
not involved in the hiring or compensation of coaches.
This is left to the school administrators and the school
districts who handle hiring of all district employees,
coaches, walk-on coaches, assistant coaches, etc.
The reality is that in many schools across the country
budgets are being cut to the point where coach and program
director compensations are also being reduced and eliminated.
In these cases the booster club is justified should
it choose to assist the school by providing funding
to compensate for coach and program directors. Your
booster club board of directors needs to make the decision
and come to a majority vote before you move forward.
It is also advisable that your group make the contribution
to the school and let the school provide the coach and
program directors with the compensation directly.
Send
us your Dear Booster.... article and we will select
one each month to share with the readers of Booster
Trends. To submit your email send to: dearbooster@boostercentral.org.

TIPS |

How
to choose a fundraising company:
Whether this is your first fundraiser or your 100th,
you'll be faced with decisions. One of them will be
how to choose a fundraising company. It's hard enough
to plan a fundraising campaign, so you want to be sure
the company you choose works with you and isn't just
in it for a quick sale.
Good
fundraising companies will need to know about your group
to help you the best. This is what they should ask you:
1. Your group's financial goal
2. Your fundraising timeline
3. The number of potential participants and their ages
4. Any historical information you can provide (e.g.
past fundraisers, participation levels, successes and
failures).
If
they don't ask these questions, this may suggest that
they don't really care about you. It's in a good company's
best interest to care and help make your fundraiser
a success. They are looking to build customer loyalty
and want to be around a long time.
Things
You Need to Know About A Fundraising Company
1. How long has the company been in business?
2. How many years of experience does the company representative
have in fundraising?
3. Do they listen to your needs and are easy to work
with? If so, then they will help you later if problems
arise.
4. Are the their products of high quality? If so, then
your fundraiser will raise more with less hassle.
5. What is the percentage profit of sales? Although
the percentage profit is important, there are many other
factors that need to be considered (product quality,
shipping included, time saving help).
6. What services are available to save you and your
volunteers time and energy? Does the company provide
checklists, collection envelopes, tally sheets and pre-sorting?
7. Are products paid for in advance or upon delivery?
Will they work with you on a fair payment option?
8. Is there an incentive or prize program? If so, who
pays for it?
9. How are products shipped and when? Who pays the freight?
10. What is the policy regarding damaged or unsold product?
What about back orders?
11. Can the company provide references?
Once
you find a fundraising company that matches up to the
points above, you'll ensure better success on your next
fundraiser and many fundraisers to come.

Teacher
Torture
School principal picks as many teachers as he/she
feels will willingly participate - no party poopers!
The principal also has to play (to be fair of course).
The principal then selects an "appropriate"
activity that each teacher has to do such as: kiss
a pig, color hair a wild color, dress outrageously,
roller skate, etc. Be creative! Have fun! The teachers
vote on what the principal has to do. Get a large
jar for each teacher and the principal. Write the
name of the each teacher and the principal and their
"assigned activity" on their individual
jars. Put the jars where someone can keep an eye over
them - preferably in a high traffic area. Students,
teachers, parents, and other school employees "vote"
by depositing money into the jar(s). At the end of
the fundraising event, the three (five, etc) teachers
who have the most money in their jars, have to do
their assigned activity. Have the "winners"
perform their activity at a pep rally or other regular
assembly, or hold a special assembly just for the
fundraiser.
