Half
Time 3 Point Free Throws
This
fundraiser is very simple and basic. Best conducted during halftime
at basketball games. The activity requires the involvement of an announcer,
ball retrievers and parents to collect the money as well as position
the shooters and hand out pop to winners. The announcer is key. He/she
will announce to the crowd that it is now time to find out "who
is the best shooter in the crowd". The announcer will invite everyone
to come down to the floor and take a chance at sinking a *3 point shot.
They will encourage moms, dads, brothers, classmates and fans from the
opposing team to come down and take a shot. "Get your dollar out
and come win a liter of pop". It is very important that the announcer
builds crowd involvement as well as announcing the names of people shooting,
and making shots. Setup: Use both hoops at each end of the gym to keep
the event moving and to allow as many people to shoot as possible. You
will need two (2) basketballs per hoop. We suggest you bring out the
pop on a cart or in some fashion that it can be displayed to the crowd.
You will need identical sets of volunteers for each hoop: One person
to retrieve balls and one person to hand the ball to the next shooter
and insure they are positioned properly. One person is also required
to take money. You can have one person to hand out pop for both hoops.
Participation Costs & Prizes: Each shooter pays $1 per shot. Each
shot made wins 1 liter of pop. Suggestion: Contact school district pop
supplier to donate pop for event. Offer name announcement for donation.
Time Requirements: Event duration will depend upon size of crowd, announcers'
ability to excite and motivate crowd and the start time. Approximate
5 - 10 minutes. Notes: Smaller participants should be allowed to shoot
shots closer then the 3-point line. Assume one (1) out of five (5) shots
will win in calculating pop needs. Within ten (10) minutes using both
baskets it is very feasible to allow 100 shots or more.
